Infra Red Landscapes
Decided to try out some infra-red landscapes on the Leica Q which is my current go to camera. I love the 28mm Summilux lens and its almost a do it all camera for what I shoot. In the realm of things for Leica, this camera to me is value for money. I know its all relative to the amount spend on a single lens camera, but in Leica scheme of things, for a Leica Q, you effectively pay for an amazing 28mm Summilux and get a camera thrown in for free.
Anyway technical setup as follows - Leica Q mounted on tripod, Hoya Infra red R72 filter, stacked with a Circular polariser. ISO 400, Aperture f8, 10 seconds exposure.

Love how the movement of the clouds is contrasted against the lush, carved-in-place foliage!
Have not tried it out on the M240 Christian
But I reckon that it may well work though the exposures and settings will probably need to be tweaked to find the working combination for the M240

IR is quite fun as it gives a surreal field to foilage and landscape. Does not work on all subjects though

Back in 2014 I did some IR tests with Ilford SFX 200, a B&W film that has extended red sensitivity (up to 740nm) together with a R72 Infrared Filter. I was using my Nikon F3P and the AIS 50mm f/1.2... The question was how to determine the exposure... ...
I bracket my shots like crazy
in figuring out which exposure timing will give the best result. On the Leica Q, I tried not to extend the exposure too long as you will risk the foilage getting blurred with movements from the wind etc. So I try to have an exposure less than 8 seconds an...

I have to give it a try on digital... I enjoy a bit of IR ; ) Edit: manual focus? Did you have to adjust the distance for IR?
For focusing
I basically used manual hyperfocal zone focusing based on f8 aperture so that it gives me maximum depth of field set at f8. Funny thing is that the Leica Q even though with the R72 IR filter on it is still able to auto focus when you set the shutter speed...

When I was using the R72 I could not focus through the filter... too dark. I was focusing at near infinity so even though there was an IR focus adjustment indicator on the lens I don't remember it as being that critical. Got to love the Leica Q
