In the last 30 days 63 people have been attacked by bears in Japan...

Oct 25, 2020,22:51 PM

Fortunately (or rather unfortunately) only one individual has been injured in Nagano Prefecture.  It seams that the problem is a lack of natural food, specifically acorns are reported to be at lower levels than previous years.  Thin bears are roaming the populated areas looking for 柿 (persimmons)...

In any case, I felt comfortable hitting the back streets of Karuizawa a few weeks ago... did I mention that there had been a lot of rain during my recent visit.

Thanks for looking,
Casey

The word that immediately springs to mind looking at these pictures is - damp (a condition I’m all too familiar with in my part of the world). You’ve captured that dull weather beautifully. The other thing that strikes me is that the location doesn’t look...

If it wasn't for the cars it would be very difficult to tell when the photos were taken which gives them a lot of charm.

There's a restaurant chain in Tokyo named after the fruit that serves wonderful traditional fare... one of my favorite eating establishments. Casey

We stayed at a beautiful ryokan...

 By: mdg : October 26th, 2020-10:57
...somewhere near Kamakura. We were early and the room wasn't ready so the manager suggested taking a hike in the nearby hills with trails. It was very pleasant, but there were 'beware of bear' signs everywhere : )

The ryokan used my wife's company's software and they rolled out the red carpet for us...

...when we left, the entire staff was lined up on the driveway (like Downton Abby) : ) They gave us a ride (two minutes) to the train station in a Rolls Royce Phantom. Great Japanese hospitality as usual...
