Two watches in tribute to Mr. Philippe Stern
It seemed to me that one way to pay tribute to Mr. Philippe Stern, a man to whom Patek Philippe and all of us watch enthusiasts owe so much, was to show some personal photos taken at the Patek Philippe Museum of two watches in particular:
- The Wrist Chronometer with One-minute Tourbillon Regulator, ref. 3699 (Inv. P-709).
- The Minute Repeater Alarm, ref. 1938P-001.
Ref. 3699 houses a 1949 observatory tourbillon calibre which was cased in 1987 at the request of Mr. Philippe Stern and worn by him as his personal watch.

The Minute Repeater alarm ref. 1938P-001 is a 30-piece limited edition which was created by Thierry Stern in 2023 in homage to his father on the occasion of his 85th birthday.
The platinum case measures 41 x 14.2 mm.
The dial is Grand Feu black enamel, with a portrait of Philippe Stern in Grand Feu white and grey miniature painting on enamel.

Even though both pieces are absolutely beautiful, and the observatory tourbillon caliber is splendid, I much prefer the minute repeater in this instance. Thank you very much for this mini pictorial! Filip

Although the repeater would be a dream watch to own i cant see myself wearing this .
Why wouldn’t they made a different kind of homage then a face on the dial 🤷🏻♂️.
Philippe Stern was an absolute genius and visionary in the world of horology. This was evident not just in the super complicated high end masterpieces, but
in line of watches that opened the world of Patek Philippe to a much larger audience with a series of models that started in the mid 90s and continues to this day - the mid level complication. Before the AC 5035 it was pretty much Calatrava or PC. The 503...

So glad that he got to wear the 1938P and enjoyed the tribute his son paid to him. Must have been a touching moment between father and son, no matter what others thought of this watch.
Yes, it must have been an important moment for them.
