5711 ... now or later?

After reading your post and the others responses, it reminded me of similar events which happened with the 3940 and the 150th anniversary watches years ago when demographics actually meant something.  That meaning a dealer in a specific location typically took care of the clients in that region, of course today, that doesn't mean as much given technology and worldwide selling by both official dealers and resellers..

But getting back to the subject at hand, the 3940 and the anniversary watches had a very similar run where folks were clamoring for them and having to wait.  I had folks calling from everywhere, didn't know if they were real clients or resellers. And some would offer over list price to avoid the wait .. how much easier could this possibly get?  You don't have to spend hours and hours educating and answering question after question ..  but what about my clients? Do I sell a watch at an above list price and forego them ...  forget the additional money?  The client will never know, if they should call, the easy answer would be that it hasn't arrived.  On top of that, I've done nothing wrong by way of the sale ... except to the clients I am supposed to take care of and see frequently.  To me, that relationship and trust was far more important than an opportunity from someone I had never seen before and likely, I would never see again.

The prudent thing to do is place the order with your dealer, the one who will take care of you when needed, and gain or maintain a long lasting relationship with them.  The fever will calm down and that above list price will most certainly drop at some point, which if you paid 47% over list and from someone who isn't a dealer and can offer no assistance to you in the future should you find yourself looking for another Patek ... well that's when you reach for the Tylenol or a stiff shot asking yourself what you were thinking at the time.

I've just noticed your decision, I've been up and down all day and just now getting back to the computer, and you made the right one.  Hopeful you will it receive far sooner than 3 years.
