Patek Philippe

Young vs old. Formal vs casual.

I love both the Calatrava and the Nautilus and think they fulfill different roles: the Nautilus is more casual and the Calatrava more formal. To make the Calatrava more casual and informal seems to go against the grain of what it stands for.

I also think there's a big difference between "Young" and "Youthful". i don't think any Patek Philippe is aimed at a particular demographic, but much more of a mindset. The Nautilus is aimed at a more "youthful" mindset - they might be 25 or 55 but have that as part of their personality. Equally they might also have a "mature" mindset and be any age - these things are not mutually exclusive.

That being the case you need different watches/brands that fulfill different mindsets and different usage occasion criteria.

Personally I wouldn't change a thing. I think you can happily own both a 5711/1a and 5127R as watches that cover casual and formal, and youthful and mature. A more casual line for Patek I think would make the brand feel frivolous and would lose some of that timeless quality you expect from the brand.
