One can get easily burnt due to improper service by non authorized watchmakers, over polishing, non original parts etc
Keep in mind that archive papers only tell the manufacture and sale date and NO MORE

I pref to have a full set with all my watches .
With some older models its sometimes difficult to buy a full set but if the watch comes with papers or certificate then i will try to hunt for a original box afterwards.

For me it give the sign a pre owner handled a watch with care. Buying a watch without papers and box is sometimes cheaper, and feels a watch wanted in a hurry. Only if a watch is rare and unique and took years to find is an exception.
