For me, it’s: 1) Condition of watch (not overly polished), and including service records are the most important. I don’t go any further if watch isn’t in good condition and well cared for. 2) Certificate of Origin 3) Original box (in good condition) 4) Extract from Archive

Just curious how much value does everyone put on the importance of a “collectible” watch have accompanying papers and original box? For a Patek, will an Extract from the Archives provide as much comfort in the authenticity of the watch as a Certificate of...
I pref to have a full set with all my watches .
With some older models its sometimes difficult to buy a full set but if the watch comes with papers or certificate then i will try to hunt for a original box afterwards.
You buy the seller!

Anything newish ie after 1990 I would expect box and original papers but for vintage - condition trumps papers and box but

For me it give the sign a pre owner handled a watch with care. Buying a watch without papers and box is sometimes cheaper, and feels a watch wanted in a hurry. Only if a watch is rare and unique and took years to find is an exception.
