Just curious how much value does everyone put on the importance of a “collectible” watch have accompanying papers and original box? For a Patek, will an Extract from the Archives provide as much comfort in the authenticity of the watch as a Certificate of... 

With some older models its sometimes difficult to buy a full set but if the watch comes with papers or certificate then i will try to hunt for a original box afterwards.

Lack of papers, box etc would usually make me question the provenance However if it’s coming from a very reliable source and a piece I can’t get anywhere, would consider it

Minimum would be archive papers; but more importantly are condition and service history in addition to provenance. One can get easily burnt due to improper service by non authorized watchmakers, over polishing, non original parts etc Keep in mind that arc... 

For me, it’s: 1) Condition of watch (not overly polished), and including service records are the most important. I don’t go any further if watch isn’t in good condition and well cared for. 2) Certificate of Origin 3) Original box (in good condition) 4) Ex...

For me it give the sign a pre owner handled a watch with care. Buying a watch without papers and box is sometimes cheaper, and feels a watch wanted in a hurry. Only if a watch is rare and unique and took years to find is an exception.

As she will have them (thinking the watch is in the box too). I only say this because my only Patek (40 yrs old) was one of those … I’d say B
