Welcome Elyssa! I don't hold a PhD in psychology like you do, but let me tell you: By *seeking* a Patek Philippe, you understand more about the Brand and its philosophy than most long-term collectors! :-)

PS: Yes, I know EVERYTHING, but that's not a surprise! smile

PPS: Thanks for the further info you've given to our members, beyond gender and age from your first post. That was helpful, and I'm glad you received so many useful replies. So let me also briefly add my personal suggestion in response: The 5119R (note that R stands for Rose gold) was my own first Patek in 2008, and look what happened later.....so this is one that I often suggest to collectors "seeking" to approach the Calatrava line with a beautiful, modern, iconic timepiece smile

Here are a few pictures taken last summer in another very warm place (Italy!). The first two are on my wrist and the third on my girlfriend's. I didn't take measurements, but I'm pretty sure your 5.5" wrist would easily fit in between. Hence, chances are a 5119 will look wonderful on you as well, whichever the gold color!

I hope this helps Doctor, and please keep us updated on your decision! smile Cheers,

FabR (Patek moderator)

Woman seeking a classic calatrava

 By: Lyssb : October 12th, 2023-02:39
I am a 37 year old woman looking to get a Calatrava. I am repeatedly drawn to the 3919 or 5119. I don’t care for a ladies reference as I don’t like small face watches and accordingly I believe the 3919 could be a good middle ground. My questions are would...

Perhaps try the ref. 4897

 By: vitalsigns : October 12th, 2023-03:04
It’s as big as the 3919 at 33mm and a more fashionable ladies piece. ...

A few additional details may help

For example your wrist shape and size as well as the intended use (business, private, etc...). I was recently in business meetings with smaller framed ladies wearing a pink gold cartier santos dumont xl and a 44mm stainless steel panerai which definitely ...

My wrist circumference is 5.5 inches - diameter 2". Intended use is more private, but could be business, as well.

Are there any watch dealers in your area where you can try them on?

I always say that less is more. Unless you have a larger wrist I would say the 33mm watch would be better proportioned since it is a dressy piece. As for the metal tone, I personally would prefer yellow gold because it suits the classic style and creates ...

This is very, very helpful and aligns with much of where I am leaning. My jewelry is 50/50 white gold and yellow gold, belt buckles yellow gold, but my Hermes handbags are all gold hardware

Trust your own sense of style and don't ask for outside opinions.

First of all welcome... Second of all... Do understand, the quality of our answers is only based off the quality of the data we receive... I say the following to men and women: You could be a very tall man or woman with a very large wrist, and even a very...

I had a business meeting this week and saw the 5119 in the metal for the first time. I must say it looks superb in wg. The guy wearing it was very thin so your arms might be similar. It looked so refined, so beautiful. I would buy the 5119G without a mome...

Hello and welcome to the forum

I always say that a person should wear a watch that suits his or her wrist. The 3919 is 33mm while the 5119 is 36mm. I would suggest you try both on to decide which you feel more comfortable with. One will definitely feel better than the other depending o...

First and most important welcome to the Forum! If you are unsure what to do I think seeking the opinions of knowledgeable Patek collectors

is a wise decision. While in the end you will decide what works best for you comments you receive may impart information and details that you might not have even thought about but which may become highly relevant to what would work best for you. As to siz...

Archives vs certificate

 By: Lyssb : October 14th, 2023-19:40
Is having the extract from the archives just as good/equal to having the original certificate of origins?

I don't think either watch...

...would be too big, unless you are very, very tiny. It also depends on how you will wear it. I have a friend with a 36mm Patek and a 40mm Daytona and both look great on her. She is petite.

Not too tiny. 5.5" inch circumference! Thank you - these are fun but tough decisions without having them in front of me!

I found this reference, as well: 3919SJ-001 Can anyone speak to this model over a "traditional" 3919 with black Roman numeral numbers? As in, is it more rare, more/less desirable? Certainly a bit flashier in some ways but also perhaps less so because of l...

What about this reference?

charcoal grey dial and 39mm dia x 8.08mm high-plus the power reserve is 65 hrs 39mm would be the max for your wrist size.(draw round a piece of cardboard at 39mm diameter and cut it out and try it on your arm/wrist for size) 3919 has a porcelain dial and ...

Size wise, if you wish your watch to display more prominence vs other jewelry on you, then 5119 might be a better choice. FYI, Most of the female collectors I know tend to wear men’s watches because of wrist presence. Yellow vs white gold: I would approac...
