Unfortunately, I don’t own this piece and haven’t
even seen it in real life. But, for what it’s worth, even if I think it’s a masterpiece, two thoughts come to my mind.
First, “end game” especially if Patek Philippe is concerned, evokes a minute repeater for me, ideally manual winding and with a tourbillon, like ref. 3939. So the question is: is it within your reach?
Then, as a manual winding tourbillon only, I would have in mind the Laurent Ferrier Double Spiral, especially the reference with a guilloche dial. I think I could like it even more than the 5101 because the architecture of the movement is even more gorgeous and because this watch has “only” 80h of power reserve (as opposed to 10-days) which means that you have the pleasure of winding it daily as well as the comfortable possibility of letting it rest for a few days. Having myself an 8-days watch, I know that, even if it’s very practical, you don’t get the pleasure to wind it every day as it makes no sense (and I think this would apply to the 5101 because of the 10-days movement).
If you’re interested and haven’t seen it, I’ve dedicated a thread to ref. 5101:
