Heck, I've always been a SS chap - Pt is too heavy; WG is too soft (plus the problems of rhodium plating, where used); Ti is too grey; DLC not my thing. (Ceramic, well, maybe...an interesting material...)
But then I tried on the new VC Overseas ultra-thin in WG, just for kicks; and ooooh, the softer lustre of the metal was so nice (plus: iconic movement and no date!). Shame it's priced...um...a little bit on the high side. (VC, I'm contemplating the brown dial SS version but if you really want to grab my wallet by the teeth, do the ultra-thin in SS and I'm yours!)
And around the same time I encountered that L1 MP and
So I'm just hoping I'm having a mid-life crisis and soon I can go back to my regular diet...

There is a trick:
5110 is such a classic watch that even for a white metal guy a coloured metal goes well. I would not personally like to have say 5960 in R but this classic World Time is another story. Best, Kari

but I am biased ;-)) you know. R for the warmth and elegance of reflection of the light on the dial and on the round case with his crown protection (another example is 5227R with his special case). WG or Pt fit better, IMHO, on cases with straight angles ...
J, R and G share the same dial.
But when the inner bezel, hands and indexes of each of these watches are made of the same metal than the case, the dials look very different. I am also a fan of the blue dial of 5070P; the dial of mine, the London Edition, is just a little bit darker. Bes...
The R combination is my choice. Regarding blue PP dials
could you, if you please, post one day, few different models from your collection to see the differencies and your comments of course as it is quite impossible for most of them to have this experience in the metal. Thanks, best, Patrickh

......it is between P and G, with R almost at the same level. No losing trades in this quartet though. P is cool. G is elegant. R is charming and Y is refined.
I agree. that's why I need to wear all of them to make up my mind.

Isn't it funny:
the size (37 mm) feels perfect even my wrist is 200 mm. The dial, complication, hands, size, balance, case and relatively simple Calatrava look are the factors making me smile. Best, Kari

The red gold version was the biggest surprise to me - it is indeed a very elegant watch. I bought for that matching RG Calatrava cufflinks and I'm sure that with a dark blue suit and pink shirt the watch will look really cool. Best, Kari

I already saw many RG watches in the past, for several brands, but this one particularly doesn't work the same way. The R was the first version I saw of the 5110 and a great experience. I think you did very well with the cufflinks. The Calatrava cross one...
I have a light northern skin
and on that RG is a bit bolt. A pink shirt softens the shine of a RG watch. Best, Kari

Also for me SS is the first choice followed by Pt. I do not really like WG as metal but lately I have noticed that sometimes J & R can be nice. Best, Kari

i think there are two trends emerging....
1) Coloured golds are becoming more popular 2) Case size preference for large format has peaked...smaller watches more in vogue
