Any back-country hick with dialup can figure out that a patek is something special by typing 5 letters into a Google search-box. If the person you're speaking to is old and doesn't use the internet just explain that patek has made less watches in the history of the company than Rolex made last year. Or that the most expensive wristwatches ever sold at auction are Pateks. It's like a secret handshake. Not everyone will get to know it.
