I have owned two RD's in my time (a Golden Square and a Sympathie Perpetual Chrono using a Lemania movement) and a number of Pateks (5970G, 5146J, 5070J, 5712 1a).
During my ownership of the Sympathie, it had to go back to RD and was taken care of by the new RD distributor based (I think) in Florida. Their level of service was as high as anything I've experienced with the Henri Stern Agency in NYC (their work too has been of an incredibly high standard). I'm not sure where you are based, but my one worry about RD is that the distribution in the US still seems to be through a very small organization, so you kind of feel like things could change at any moment and that RD may pull the plug on them (they've had disputes with US distributors before and have left US customers without a US service contact for quite a while).
So, my recommendation after all that is to say that while I think that some (mainly early) RD's are very good value and beautiful watches, I'd put my money behind the quality and reassurance of a Patek and it's substantial service and distribution channel.
