Possible ways to solve the mystery
Interesting and very attractive watch. I have a vague recollection of possibly having seen a watch like yours (maybe it was yours) many years ago. You might try: checking the data bases of the auction houses for "Patek 1438"; send images of the watch, inside and out with serial #s to Patek in Geneva; bring it to HSWA in NY and have it shown to Laurent, the head watchmaker for his opinion. If you decide to research it, please let us know if you get confirmation one way or the other. Either way it is a very nice and rare watch.

I don't think it's had anything added. Here you can see a Swiss hallmark (squarish mark) on the lug near where a hole would be if it were like the typical 1438. I don't see evidence of solder or other marks to indicate an aftermarket fabrication. No evide...

Hi, Thank you for the response. I have sent pictures of the watch inside and out to a representative from Patek and hope that she will respond within a week or two. Keeping my fingers crossed!! L
