One of the few references for which all four colors are all VERY attractive
Each is very different, each is having its own charm, but all are definitively extremely cool.
As for me in spite of being usually more attracted by yellow or rose gold for vintage Patek watches, in this particular case I believe I am more attracted by the two white metal variants: white gold with blue dial and platinum with black dial. I was lucky to have the opportunity to see all 4 of them (not together but at different occasions) and even if all 4 are gorgeous, the white gold and platinum iterations make my heart beat faster

Exactly: when I discovered these photos
(as I’ve never seen a 5100 in real life yet), it made me think that every one of the three elements you mention are simply perfect. A major temptation for me, but I still have to see it in real life.

I do agree that the original, as pictured, looks dated.
The modern version looks like a perfect blend of modern and vintage. A warm, vintage design in a modern package.
I like the warmth of rose gold
and sometimes J isn’t an option (as for the CdV), but I see what you mean and in this particular case, I really think it might be THE way to go… Best, Emmanuel

...to me, yellow gold is the only 'real' gold. It is its natural state and classic all the way back to the Egyptians : )

prefer it to the R or G for that matter. In person, don’t love the dial colors of those versions. My favorites are P and J, the latter being one of the all time Patek bargains

Lucky you! Among the white metal, I think my heart would beat for the platinum.
I think the combination of white metal and blue dial would seem too 'common' to me for such a special watch. But that's without having any of the 4 in real life... I could of course feel very differently face to face with them.
