Neither watch is subtle...
Neither the Aquanaut or the Rolex are subtle choices for a shrinking violet and any solid gold watch is going to have similar appeal to the general public.
If you're going to have a gold sports watch then in my opinion you have to go all-out and the Submariner is the choice of champions!
I love the solid gold Sub and am currently lusting after a 16618 with black dial. I say drop the Patek and go for the outrageous submariner and wear it with pride.

I can't speak for the yellow version. But the white gold is a real beauty. I was it in Cabo San Lucas this winter. Wow. Wish they made a steel version. It's not the expected bland navy. But a real bright, vibrant blue. The yellow version looks similar.

Thanks, nautilus. I own several rolexes and pateks including wg day-date and pp perpetual 5040. Both the aquanuat and yg sub are a little blingy but the rolex is a more durable piece. I am conflicted on the possible trade.
