Is there less love for the 5167R vs the A?

Sep 02, 2020,19:35 PM

I love the 5167R, more than the A version but it seem like the 5167A is getting more love and attention, though the same could be said for most stainless steel watches against the PM equivalents.

Is it due to A being stainless steel vs R’s precious metal? Or is it any harder to match dress style with the R?

Also, I found it very difficult to get a 3rd party leather strap to match the colors of case and dial for 5167R. Any suggestions?

Maybe I'm biased as I already have a SS 5711, but to me the 5167R is more attractive than the A due to that gorgeous RG case, combined with the dark chocolate dial. But perhaps I'm inclined that way as a chocophile too...

I like the Aquanaut in all forms, although I've never seen the green version. The rose version is very nice, but maybe not quite as under the radar as the steel version. Depends what you are looking for, and it's just a degree of difference. Most people w...

Thanks for the compliment.

Yes, R is definitely less under the radar compared to A but I find A slightly underwhelming. Blue and green are nice too, I would prefer the blue more but both are just a tad too big for me. The original strap is nice and fits the watch well but at times,...

Given that SS models are in general the most sought after, the other Aquanaut/Nautilus versions also have, gradually, become extremely popular in recent years...

So I think the 5167R is no exception (in fact, it's also *very* hard to find at any AD).... Which one then we prefer, between the A and R versions, is of course a matter of taste....but since I do own the A, let me vote for the R here! Thanks for a beauti...

Thanks for the compliment and the vote!

I had always admired beautiful photos posted by other forum users. Since I have some time at hand now, I am trying my best to learn how to take better photos and posting some of these photos on Instagram as well.

Vacations, experiences, but also things that communicate class but don’t attract attention - A being one of them, WG or P being another as opposed to RG and YG. I see Aquanaut in RG as something you will wear with connaisseurs, but for everyday A beats it...

I like the R more than the A ,what I don t like

is the price difference .

Very nice watch. Wonderful picture. 👍

I too like the 5167r, the reason i got myself a 5167a is because to me its better to swim in the pool or the sea with a steel watch. You would look odd wearing a gold watch swimming. My opinion. Geross.

Thanks for the kind words.

Looking at the past replies, I could summarize that many find the R nice, perhaps nicer than the A, but it’s precisely A being “bland” (sorry, couldn’t think of a more appropriate word) that makes it highly practical.

I was late to the game by 2 years.

It took me 5 months to get the R, it would take me forever to get the A. 😂

The R is far superior and interesting than the A.

And don’t change the strap. It’s part of the overall design concept of the Aquanaut. PP just needs to make more colors available for all Aquanaut models. A little fun never hurt nobody.

Agree, PP could consider widening the range of color choices.

I can only order the tropic and black straps for now. The red strap for 5167A Singapore edition is out of bound for me, as I understood from the distributor.

I also requested the orange Aquanaut strap from my AD.

For my 5164R. He said no, it can’t be done. So straps are assigned to specific references and a new color strap is a novelty for PP and goes only with a new reference? So if I want the orange strap it will cost me around 35-40K to go with the specific ref...

IMO the 5167 steel is more popular for several reasons. 1 - lower pricing which enables more people to get an entry piece for Patek 2 - more sporty which fits the current business casual dress code 3 - with more work from home activities, a steel watch al...

Thanks Gordon!

Valid 3 points why steel is more popular. Practicality seem to triumph beauty when it comes to watch choices, especially if the same model can be had in SS or PM. I wonder what the argument would be, had the same model come in SS, WG, Pt and Tantulum.

Even if 5167 comes in all metals, the...

SS will still be the most popular because of its price point. Others will depend on whether collectors want color metals like R or J or prefer white metals.

I like the R more; beautiful case and chocolate brown dial

But because of its color it may not the first piece in your patek collection

The R is simply stunning, but maybe not as versatile as the A in my opinion
