I think you are being stingy....... you need both......

I don't understand this type of first world problem......

If the watch came on the deployant only.... then you could have the deployant only..... BUT

If it came on a tang buckle..... I would want to retain the original.......  Also the strap is different - one is marked B and other is marked D (B for buckle and D for deployant)
So budget an addition US$550- for new strap.

Why are you so concerned with an extra $1000 ?

The hobby of collecting Patek Philippe is not ever going to be cheap.
For example - the dealer newtwork in Australia is pathetic.  Service from the AD network is less than hoepless unless you purchased said watch from them......

I fly my Pateks to Singapore or Hong Kong for service.  Then I need to fly back to collect them.
Travelling business class from Australia this is about $3500- in airfares alone........ ONE WAY!!!!

I experienced the same desire...... I bought a white gold deployant buckle for my 5127G.
I retained the original Tang buckle

I even purchased an additional spare 16mm white gold Tang buckle.

Please understand this hobby is not for nickle and dimming.

Platinum Deployant for my 5905P - What would you do?

 By: @Patek_Ambassador : December 7th, 2019-11:03
Cognoscenti, As many of you are aware I just purchased a 5905P and am in love with it. My only critique of it is that it did not come with a platinum deployant clasp and instead comes with the platinum tang buckle. My AD was unwilling to negotiate a swap ...

It's your personal prefrence. If you don't mind paying for it get the buckle you like. [nt]

If you're considering resale value keep both.

Go with the Deployant Clasp instead of the Buckle

I traded my buckle on my 5227G to a deployant clasp. It made the watch easier, quicker and safer to put on and remove. In the long run you will save on the cost of leather watch bands which could be several hundred dollars a year, if the watch is a daily ...

The Price is right

The price for the platinum deployant clasp with the buckle trade-in is about right. Everything with a Patek is expensive. Ask your A.D. how much would a replacement spring bar for your watch strap would cost and you would know exactly what I mean. Good lu...

I would do it.

Its doable with the trade.

For me, with this reference, I would prefer to get the deployant clasp and trade in the pin buckle.

In saying that, the $3,500 for this seems high to me, however I am no expert on the value so cannot really comment other than if I had the means, and it would exponentially improve my feeling when wearing/looking at the timepiece, I would go for the chang...

I am surprised your AD wasn’t willing to play ball on the deployant instead of the tang.

I have done just this with a number of pieces from Patek and Lange. I would get the deployant, doing the swop makes perfect sense as why have a redundant tang but you will need a new strap for best fit on the wrist.

I prefer the aesthetic simplicity of the regular buckle.

Personally I find the excessively ornate and showy PP symbol on the deployant very jarring.
