I found this amusing and gratifying …
I met a Patek exec at dinner. I politely asked to see his watch and he handed me his well worn 5070G. What really made an impression on me was how worn and patinated it was…. No, I will not use the word scratched….It was, without doubt, the most beautiful 5070 I’ve seen - exactly because of this patina. It lives life. I have never been totally convinced by the design of the 5070 but to see it In this condition made it much so more beautiful. Lovely. A small lesson learned from this encounter.

Like you I've never been much of a fan of the 5070, but I'm quite sure I'd love it like that. But more importantly, it's a lesson for me to remember in how I wear my own watches!

Patek Philippe make watches. Beautiful as they may be, they are certainly designed and intended to be worn ,used and enjoyed. Thank you so much for posting that excellent picture!

Good for him for wearing the piece, apparently for a long time and without too much regard for dings and scratches.

Seeing one worn as a daily wearer makes it even more desirable. And we’re saving our watches… for what? BTW cool strap.
Yes, the original that inspired the 5070 didnt start its life as a dress watch
but a "tooI" watch. I suppose its why the design takes well to the patina and the dressed down strap.
Nylon strap??
Wait is that a nylon strap? I guess if it is a daily watch then I would not use a leather strap as well…especially in humid summer conditions.

This watch has always reminded me of Dr’s. I call it the Dr Patek

I think its about attitude to this model. He wears it like he owns it - with style. It reminds a bit of when you (rarely) run in to one of those old guys who have been wearing their Rolex day-date for 50 years straight and just worn the hell out of them. ...
Haha, great! yes exactly. I think there is something liberating to learn from this attitude.
It goes against the investor approach in watch collecting. It’s about wearing and taking genuine ownership. It’s his bloody watch and it was made to be used. The exact opposite of those plastic wrapped Pateks.

I’m only assuming that he had it from new. It would be a fair assumption.
There is something quite satisfying and beautiful seeing a well made timepiece showing evidence of true wear.
The watch remains as magnificent as ever!
Exactly how they should look. Worn.
No point what so ever in owning such a watch if you don’t use it as intended. Fair play to him. He is a man after my own heart. M.
