I disagree with you on the steel.
For me, steel is the perfect material for the 5711 and white gold is the perfect choice for the 5740. 6 years ago, 5980 said it very well when he described the 5740 as the Grande Dame of the Nautilus line. To do it in steel would have been to take away something from the 5711 by introducing a sophisticated complication. To do it in white gold created a watch that has a different aura and a different feel to it- it brings out the elegant side of this sporty design, amplified by the ultrathin case.

I love the dial - both colour and layout.
But no WG for me. With time the metal is turning towards dirty yellow and steel would have been much more scratch resistant. Titanium would have been a super solution. Best, Kari
