Patek Philippe

Hi Gordon,

It's the steel watches with integrated bracelets, not the Nautilus specifically, that don't particularly appeal to me.
I much prefer the feel and look of a leather strap, as well as the look of gold or platinum. These watches are also very poorly suited to desk work, as the strap gets scratched as soon as it comes into contact with the desk (the bracelet on my Alpine Eagle is full of micro-scratches).
I chose to buy an Alpine Eagle because the price is infinitely more reasonable and because I only wear this type of watch in the summer. I find it has real qualities, but it's clear that, in absolute terms, the 5711 is a far superior watch and one that suits my tastes even better.
That said, if I had to choose between buying a Nautilus or a 5105, I would choose the 5105 without the slightest hesitation. Or, if saving up to acquire a Laurent Ferrier Tourbillon Double Spiral means forever giving up on a Nautilus, then I'll give it up without the slightest hesitation. A watch made of precious metal and with a manual winding movement will always be my priority.
Best, Emmanuel
