Kaylen, nobody knows how many are out there. It's probably a low number, but nobody knows. Your friend may want to know everything about the watch before he invests the sizeable amount of money. Sorry, he's not gonna get the production numbers. I imagine it's very few, less than 1,000 worldwide, quite possibly less than 500.
Don't know if it'll be discontinued, and nobody would know this. It is likely if it is discontinued, the same movement will be recased in a different case style. 3974 is now 5074.
And another question is, why is your friend asking you?

Tell your friend to buy it if he loves it or forego it if he doesn't love it. That is unless he's buying it because he loves the approval he gets from others more than the actual watch itself (which happens in varying degrees all the time). The best advice from a friend are often the simple ones. My friends give me simple advice all the time, I wished I listened to them more. And I also wished I gave simpler advice more often.

Yes it is rare.
The reference is rare largely due to the price, seems PP has many repetition minutes references in production and production is not the problem, rather demand. Air is thin at that price point.m
