Patek Philippe

Dear Sam

thank you for your kind words.
Re white gold - when I bought my 5130G I thought it would shine like polished steel. And actually thought my watch ha sfallen for the "white gold plating illness" you can read about so much on the internet. Now, white gold has a greyish lustre, entirely different to the white and cold shine of Super Expensive Shmatinum, or the utilitarian air of stainless steel.
White gold is very 1960ies. Not the Hippie/FlowerPower variant. Early to mid 60ies. Think Concorde, Audrey Hepburn, cocktail shakers. French silversmith Christofle has wonderful examples of whisky tumblers which remind me of that aera (http://i0.wp.com/www.martinstahl.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Christofle-2.jpg?resize=640%2C427).
It took me a while to get used to white gold. Now I love it. WG watches need to have the right dial - a sterile white enamel or porcelain dial can be too cold.
