Its never easy to choose or pick 1, as there are just so many references! I guess the way to go about it is to follow a flow chart approach, and be cognisant of the fact that not every detail you want, is carried by a single referrence.
The 3796dj, although carries my ideal dial aesthetics, is too small for my liking. The 5096 while great for its size, is just too pricey. At this point, i prefer a case size between 33 to 36mm, ideally with hobnail bezel, in yellow gold, no date window, no complications. Ideally with display caseback, and 6 o clock subdial. I find the crown guard element very beautiful, and I don't prefer the round shape with straight lugs look of 3919 or 5119.
So finally, I thought about the 5115j. I feel it works best in yellow gold . The dial being grand feu enamel adds an extra hand craft element, which i truly value. I have yet to see it in person though. I wanted something to pair with my 2 gondolos, ie 5098r and 5124g. So no overlaps, and something representing a modest spectrum of Patek, till I get my grail, the 5110 in a few years .
The roman numerals are smaller than that on the 5116, but that works better i feel. Apparently the dial finishing/ surface is not as smooth as on the 5116, as it used an older more artisanal style..till Patek perfected it on the 5116.
As always, I value your thoughts and comments...
