You could consider making a stencil out of paper

If you knew the lug width and approximated the lugs, with a little time and attention you could construct a stencil out of thick paper. It will not give you thickness or depth, but will yield a decent idea of surface area. I just did this exercise for my wife who is considering an entry-level URWERK 103, that has a non-round case, and we found the modeling exercise to be quite helpful.

I’m not super-familiar with the Patek 5140, but my opening premise would be at 37mm that’s too small for a man standing a commanding 6’ 5.5”. I’m afraid it would appear a little child-like. But, I think they only way you’ll know for certain is to get it on your wrist. Good luck!

Anyone with Patek 5140 experience? Does it wear large or small compared to its 37mm size?

Hi, I'm currently interested in maybe adding a 5140 in white metal to my collection. However, I usually do not go below 39mm case diameter, as I'm quite tall (1.97m). The 5140 is a very classical dress watch, so I might still consider getting one. The 514...

Yes, it’s a classic design from Patek...

A beautiful piece that is all about quality and discretion and that’s the point of a watch of this quality measuring 37mm.

Thank you. [nt]

That‘s a very good idea. I‘ll try that, thank you.

In my experience, diameter is not everything regarding how „big“ a watch looks. It‘s also about factors like Dial size, dial color and lug size. The 5140 seems to have longer lugs so I am hoping it looks ok, especially with a silver or grey dial.

Much bigger than you think...

But also really thin so you don't really feel the weight or significant presence. Here's an old shot compared to other Pateks. ...

7 inches round, top thickness of 2.5 inches. Cheers, Peter

I used to own a 5140G and a 5196P. Both 37mm on paper. The 5196P wore visually 2mm larger than the 5140G. On my 17.5cm wrist I thought the 5140G was perfection in size... it is a superb piece in every iteration... for choice I love the blue P and the brow...

Sorry for nitpicking...

5140’s official diameter was 37. 2mm actually 😂 But as other folks have mentioned, it does wear larger than it seems, lug-to-lug length is 45.7mm. If you’re looking for white metal, a plus point to consider is 5140Ps came with exhibition back unlike the 3...

...the 5140 (as you know) is an enlarges 3940 with some allowances for the date numerals. Why not just get the original 3940 and be done with it? Yes, you are decidedly tall...but it's not your height, but rather your wrist size. I am 5'10" and my wrist s...

Agreed

3940 would be the better choice. It is the original and has a much more refined dial.

Then 5140 is no option either

the difference is 1mm... You need different watches then.
