Yes I agree the long lugs make the piece wear 'big'. Similarly I have experience with a Patek 96 which is quoted 30.8mm and, standing on long lugs, wears much 'bigger'. The 96's relatively large crown (of the 12'200 movement) also helps.

The lug shapes, 'raised' lacquer print on the name & seconds / minute tracks, the durability of a silvered dial against the elements, etc.. I can't fathom how people organized themselves to make these pieces 70 years ago.
