I think the definition of the quintessential PP varies from person to person. As far as I am concerned, and I own the white gold version, this is an extremely versatile watch. Can be worn with any suit/tux, and is classic enough to be also a casual watch. It is a watch that can definitely be a daily wearer and not stand out as too ostentatious. Design-wise it is faithful to the old calatrava design, so if you are looking for something that has been a staple of PP over the years, this might just be it. Obviously opinions differ on this point, so all I am doing is expressing my own, however, as far as classy watches go, you cannot go wrong with this one. Will post some pictures of my example soon, but when I was looking for a calatrava model, this is the one that stood out. I purposely did not get one with a date window as I wanted it to be as simple as possible. Hours, minutes, and seconds was enough for me. Size-wise, it is neither too small nor too large (you can look up the exact sizes on the PP website), and due to the fact that it is a rather thin watch, having a large diameter would make it look disproportionate. If it was thicker, then a larger diameter would be fine ala A. Lange & Sohne, however the watch would lose its purpose of being a faithful reproduction of the original calatravas from the earlier part of the 20th century. My opinions only. Enjoy the decision process.
