… seems not 100% spot on regarding the location of the „Swiss“ in 2nd/3rd generation, though. Shaytun‘s watch seems to illustrate this. Otherwise, great article indeed!

Hi guys, I'm in the process of finalizing a purchase of a beautiful and long desired Patek 3940J. It's a 3rd or 4th series (based on who you ask, 2001 make). Most resources I read state that the "sigma Swiss sigma" mark should be in line with the minute t...

Good question and I hope that this forum can provide you with answers.

The 3940 is a good choice with its well balanced dial. Look forward to seeing your wrist shots and reading your post on this beauty soon !

Look forward to posting. As as update, I did receive information from experts that, in fact, Patek had lots of unused older dials that they used in later model 3940's. Guess they weren't selling back then. Times sure have changed.

Not so likely…

… older dials (Mk2) have a different subbdial style (with hard edges), unlike this one. Your dial looks like Mk3 with these sub-dials and font. Just the Swiss stamp sits low like in Mk2. To me, this indicates that the criterion mentioned elsewhere, ie „Mk...

Beautiful. I can appreciate the difference of the subdial step-down effect vs the 3rd generation.

The dial is original and is fine for the watch. My article is a generic guide based on researches that you can use with flexibility. It is a great watch and you won't be wrong with it. Looking forward to see it on your wrist!

Thanks Fed!
