I had a problem with my 5960P.
Initially, it worked fine. However, one day, when I pushed the
reset button, the second hand went to around the 55 second position, as
opposed to the 12 o'clock position. The watch is now back in
Geneva for repairs. My AD told me that mine was not the
only 5960P which they had sold which had the same problem.
Further, I was told that because of the problems with the movement,
delivery of the 5980 has been delayed.

So given the issue you had with the 5960, would you recommend buying one? I have a deposit with an AD for this watch but am weary that it is going to be a maintenance problem and be a watch that could be shunned by future collectors. I am not sure what to...

even though it has developed this problem. I'm sure Patek will be able to iron this out.
I agree...Patek will get it right
....and if you love the watch and if buying for yourself.......who cares if it will be 'shunned by future collectors'? ;-) .if you are planning on re-sale - then it is a diffrent story....stilll...Patek will get it right ,so I would not worry about it muc...
