Hi there,

Last year patek's novelity the 5980,nautilus chronograph is in trouble?Rumours spreading among local retailers that patek encounter movement design ptoblem,therefore till now the watch is still not in the market.Anyone got any inside news to share.

A couple of 5980 were delivered and from that batch a couple came back  for repair with stuck chronograph pushers. If you pushed the buttons dead on there was no problem but if you did it at an angle they got stuck...
 From my understanding we will begin to see them appear on the market soon..

Initially, it worked fine.  However, one day, when I pushed the reset button, the second hand went to around the 55 second position, as opposed to the 12 o'clock position.  The watch is now back in Geneva for repairs.  My AD told me that  mine was not the only 5960P which they had sold which had the same problem.  Further, I was told that because of the problems with the movement, delivery of the 5980 has been delayed.

So given the issue you had with the 5960, would you recommend buying one?  I have a deposit with an AD for this watch but am weary that it is going to be a maintenance problem and be a watch that could be shunned by future collectors.  I am not sure what to do.

even though it has developed this problem.  I'm sure Patek will be able to iron this out.

....and if you love the watch and if buying for yourself.......who cares if it will be 'shunned by future collectors'?  ;-)

.if you are planning on re-sale - then it is a diffrent story....stilll...Patek will get it right ,so I would not worry about it much\

Agreed they are rectiying it,other words it is being address right now.

Agreed who cares if any resale value.

Agreed buy it for the sake of loving it.

But.............

i)they are the Noble House of watch amking industry.
ii) you are spending US50k-Us100k.
iii)you need to squeeze,fight,tussle on price with so many contender.
iv)should be a piece of brilliant time machine.
v)bla---bla---

And at the end................

U bought something broken!
What do you feel,being a "Watch lover" ?would you understand?if you are tailking on money,on owernership,on surface principal,i do not think you appreciate watch.

... the 3712 had initial problems too. As a result fewer people bought them, and I'm not sure if it's connected with the technical problems but its shelf life turned out to be quite short.

Due to all that, the 3712 rose in value like a meteor.

Judging by this,  rather than be worried about future collector's value: if a PP watch has technical problems, run to the AD and get one as soon as possible! )

but where did you hear there is a problem with 3712?

And if there is, indeed, any, what is the problem? Could you elaborate?

I have been using my 3712 for a long time without a single issue. FYI, I believe that mine is from the first (few) batch of the 3712 that was delivered to the ADs. It is the "first generation" of 3712 with just 3 red dots on the dial.

If you are talking about power reserve, I can tell you that mine is working perfectly fine.

i got 5980 last November, which was a first batch i believe.
it works perfectly except that chrono hand didn't come back to zero just once.
this was reported in the other forum, "reset button doesn't work correctly
if you push it softly..." but i never experienced / heard of this "stuck" problem.

has any owner experienced this????

and i picked up 5960P last Feb, and experienced no problem.

i have a feeling that this kind of rumor is generated from a couple of "rare" case
as people who feels unhappy about their purchase tend to talk loud in net....
is this the case?????

In fact,  I bought 4 PPs in the past year and the 5960P was one of my favourites, alongside a 5712R.  However, a problem is a problem and I am just reporting and sharing my experience (and also what I was told by my AD).  No question of my being unhappy with my purchase!

and for me as well, 5960P is the most favorite patek so far, even after learning this failure report.

concerning this, pls keep us informed, if there's any new info.

I have no intention of critising all the pp fans in general or those who bought 5960/80 in particular.please do not get me wrong.I am a big fan of pp myself.I was over whelmed with thier down to earth effort,they sent me letter congratulating me,and even sent me magazine from time to time keeping me inform of their latest development.I praise them on their hard work though their are giant watch producer.
No to mention,their last year tremendous work on 5960,then the 30th annivesarry on Nautilus recreating 5712 and 5980.Lift it further,with the 5159 and etc this year,i definately kow tow the management and those in the design planning team.
My intention is just to alarm the manufactrer to be extra carefull.They are the top watch manufacturer,family heritage inherited generation.something like that should not went wrong,judging by faulty of majority.
As a big fan,i really hope to see pp glitter and pass on to generation just like thier advertisement.Address them that their fans have utmost sensetivity and concern over every tiny things they do.
I am sure every fan out there would like to see pp and their fans live happily ever after.....
