Exactly my thoughts !

The black minute track with small lumedots against the plain Cream dial... for me the clin d'œil with the PN dial is obvious...
But I might be wrong... although I am not often ( lol )

Question: Which 5960/ 1A do you prefer?

 By: amanico : March 22nd, 2017-15:15
Before the Basel Fair, there was no other choice than the white dial if you like the 5960 / 1A. Now, there is an alternative: The black, or the white dial. Personally, I would go for the white. Why? Because it has an incredible depth and coolness. Not tha...

I am trying to decide.

 By: dr.kol : March 22nd, 2017-15:19
Perhaps both... However, I have P with black dial and three would obviously be too much. Like you said, white is cool. Best, Kari

No!

 By: dr.kol : March 22nd, 2017-15:41
Too many of those already. But 5960 is a great watch. One really understands it just after wearing it all the time. Best, Kari

True. [nt]

 By: amanico : March 22nd, 2017-15:43

I would go for the blue dial with the brown strap

 By: ifraher : March 22nd, 2017-15:22
That they offered in white gold unfortunately! Almost perfect, I feel they should offer all of these in steel and with a strap option. I fear the bracelet may be a touch too intricate to fit the sports appeal of the watch itself. Ian

Of course...

 By: ifraher : March 22nd, 2017-15:26
But I nice Patek clasp is always welcome.

Yes, I agree.

 By: dr.kol : March 22nd, 2017-16:22
Sometimes I'm worried that the manufacturer forgets some basic things about business: who are the clients and what do they want. Best, Kari

This is hard to tell before seeing the new one...

By: Mark in Paris : March 22nd, 2017-15:27
...but I think I would go for the black dial. On the Sporty - Chic line I would say the white one is more on the sporty side than the black dial. Because of the black colour but also because of the white gold finish of all the dial elements (hands, marker...

Very hard to judge from that picture

 By: keks : March 22nd, 2017-15:27
Seen one black (pic cred Hodinkee) on a wrist and it looks amazing, very different character but very cool nevertheless. On a black cordovan strap perhaps? ...

White.

 By: beejo : March 23rd, 2017-01:21
Looks more sporty and fresh. Best, Ahmed

White dial for me too.

 By: Alex83 : March 22nd, 2017-15:29
Probably my next Patek, and I have the feeling yours too... Question though, how come the offitial price for the black dialed one is almost 20k than the White's secondary market? Does the white have same offitial price?

I expect same retail price for both steel versions

 By: keks : March 22nd, 2017-15:40
However I think the black will carry a different gray market price as I believe (read hope) Patek will better control supply of this. The white dial unfortunately is oversupplied and perhaps an error in estimating demand but hope they will sort that out g...

The MSRP of both watches are the same

By: Mark in Paris : March 22nd, 2017-15:56
45 000 CHF excl. VAT. The white one was 46 300 K€ incl. VAT in 2015 in France for instance. Best, Mark

Without a doubt, white

 By: Poky : March 22nd, 2017-16:26
The black does not look good at all here. Just my opinion based on the photo alone.

Both are great dials ! Based on this photo, I would choose the...

 By: GLau : March 22nd, 2017-16:38
black dial because it offers more contrast ! Cannot wait to compare both in the metal. Cheers Gordon

white for me :) [nt]

 By: christianch : March 22nd, 2017-17:01

Based on the photos I'd say white.

 By: RussW : March 22nd, 2017-17:09
The red seconds hand seems too much on the black dial.

Thanks, Russ. [nt]

 By: amanico : March 22nd, 2017-22:50

I'm going to dodge your question . . .

 By: M4 : March 22nd, 2017-17:21
. . . because it's too close to call. But, no matter, I prefer the white gold, blue dial, tan strap, reference 5960G to both steel variants. I'm wondering about the price of the 5960G. Anyone know? Thank you. M4

Price for 5960G

 By: Bengoshi76 : March 23rd, 2017-01:00
is - if I'm not mistaken - 58k CHF including 8% Swiss VAT

Thank you. [nt]

 By: M4 : March 23rd, 2017-01:18

Black

 By: GT3 : March 22nd, 2017-19:03
I would go with the black dial. It has a very nice contrast with the quite 'busy' bracelet IMHO. Would love to see the WG version. Best, H

At first I found the white dialed version quite simple in design, like a drawing from a five year old but ...

By: COUNT DE MONET : March 22nd, 2017-23:05
... it has certainly grown on me and the strap alteration makes it a highly useable, cool everyday Patek, especially with the vertical clutch. The black one has to be seen but is less attractive, possibly.

I agree with you.

 By: aris d : March 22nd, 2017-23:05
The white stands out. Aris

Thanks, Aris. [nt]

 By: amanico : March 22nd, 2017-23:19

How about this for a two watch collection:

 By: Thomahof : March 22nd, 2017-23:18
5960A black dial and 5170P. Drooling...

Both are beautiful, but the white is completed for summer here ;)

 By: tombub : March 23rd, 2017-01:03
The black would be very well with a black leather red topstitching (the white dial also it is true) and maybe more classy. The white is more additional of a duomètre black dial chrono .

I'm not going to be popular with this but here goes.

 By: Miles_151 : March 23rd, 2017-01:51
Neither. When Patek released the original 5960 I remember thinking they had stumbled across something really very special. For me the complications including the fly back function worked perfectly on a watch which I could wear with jeans or more formal we...

Never been too keen on the Steel 5960 with Bracelet

 By: crown comfort : March 23rd, 2017-02:16
but I can see the white has its charm. For me the best 5960 is still the original P with slate grey dial and white subdial. The new black is so-so. CC

Agreed.

 By: Miles_151 : March 23rd, 2017-02:22
I was really beginning to think I was on my own here. M

Still is ;) [nt]

 By: keks : March 23rd, 2017-02:44

put the white dial next to slate grey dial....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : March 31st, 2017-03:52
.....no contest.

I will do that. [nt]

 By: amanico : March 31st, 2017-16:43

That makes sense! [nt]

 By: amanico : March 23rd, 2017-10:26

Personally I love the white/cream dial (a friend of mine has one) however I'm very intrigued by the black dial

By: Mohannad (aka Riddler) : March 23rd, 2017-07:51
And will reserve my final judgement when I see it in the flesh One interesting aspect is that the dial is Matt looking which is very attractive imho in the context of this watch

I vote for White.

 By: Rhyzen : March 23rd, 2017-16:47
I'm obviously biased! ...

White.

 By: psychotic : March 30th, 2017-21:59
Though I'll keep an open mind for the black once I see it in person.

Let me bump up this thread...

I stopped by Geneva on my way back from the Swiss Alps to indulge myself with good cigars, and decided to pay a visit to the Patek Salon. It was my first time there; I was just curious to see the salon (which by the way is magnificent). I had the chance t...

I must say both versions look really appealing on your wrists. It shows the significant difference between looking at this model and the bracelet on a stand-alone basis and during a try. I think the black one suits you really well indeed Thanks for your f...

OMG...After seeing your pics I find it even harder to answer the "black or white" question.

 By: cayenne1200 : August 16th, 2017-11:40
In March I voted for the black version. At that time the white dial didn't appeal to me very much and also, I was eager to add a black dial PP to my collection. But meanwhile I had the chance to wear the white version several times on my wrist and I have ...

I have been going back and forth on this for a while

I own the white and have been very happy but think I may prefer the black dial. I do have the all black platinum already, which is my favorite 5960, but am considering the black steel as I think it has a different look and serves a different purpose. When...

Hi Nico.

 By: gigi : August 17th, 2017-00:01
Hi remember we spoke about this before. But back then there was not choice on a black version. I think the black one looks a bit smaller (definitely a plus) But the white version has a more vintage look (Daytona style). Probably I would go for the black. ...

The black one looks much smaller on the wrist....

 By: dms : August 17th, 2017-01:05
... it's amazing how the color of the dial changes ones perception.

White for me

 By: Mr OP : August 20th, 2017-10:34
I have tried both at the Geneva Salon and the black makes the red chrono hand pop even more ! I think WG hand would have Been a better choice IMO since the dial is already quite busy Anyway the Cream dial is nicer and reminds me of the panda PN6263 I have...

Newmanesque, Nico? I think a comparison with a Daytona Newman is pretty farfetched.

 By: cayenne1200 : August 21st, 2017-04:24
According to my Impression both watches have nothing, really nothing to do with each other, exept being a chronograph. Newman dials are matte and lack of colour change and deepness of laquer. 5960A has got this exciting colour of the dial becoming egg-She...

Hmm, I find it very interesting how different individuals are sensing the design of the same watch model.

 By: cayenne1200 : August 24th, 2017-02:43
For me the 5960 is much more bold and sporty with ist red details and calendar windows. The Newman is much more restrained with ist matte dial and elegant Art Deco fonts. Most importantly, we all like this model for different reasons.
