The 1965 Seiko 62mas is the earliest I have seen and they are always small crowns. [nt]

That silicone strap
is the key to making these two pieces feel balanced.
The 39.9mm SLA017 also came with a typically terrible Seiko steel bracelet which makes the watch feel top-heavy.
They left it out for the SLA025, and I see why. The waffle straps are lint-magnets, but feel very comfortable.
The SLA025 feels wearable despite the 44.8mm case size (and I usually favour 34mm Rolex cases).
