... 1603 DJ made c. 1964. I guess the dial was originaly a deep cobalt blue, as some hints of original color is in the surroundigs under the minute track, but overall the dial has turned into a gorgeous purple dial as you well say.
Indoors it looks like blue, but with natural light purple shows in all its splendor. It is very difficult to catch this color change in a photographs, though it turns fairly well in my picture. I feel this dial changed color in same way of some early gold case Subs 1680 reference whose blue nipple dials also turned to purple.
This gives an special charme to the look of this 50 years old watch.

The cloth finish dial is crisp. I forget what the technical term is for this dial.

Here I go with my DJ 1600, with a light violet dial, originally a silver one that turned into this strange and beutiful shade.

... the way some dial change their colors and get these amazing shades. You say this was original silver, but now is looks like a very light purple. These changes make for a one of a kind specimen of each of our watches!
