Nicolas, reading your reply on a similar post a few steps below I have to say I completely disagree.

While you said;

Too large and too short hands, too big round indexes, too big and too thick case. The numbers on the bezel are too small, and too fat.

For me this is by far the most beautifull modern Rolex  (when I say modern, I mean since they started with those fat lugs like the 116610 sub) This is again a nice watch. lugs are not too fat, the case is well proportioned, hands are fat but I like them. 'Small numbers on the bezel' ??? Where ?? I think they have the perfect size.

 

Like said, it's the watch from a friend but If I had to pick one Rolex today .... it would definitely be this one.

The new subs ? I don't like them and I was afraid every ne watch would look 'fat' this explorer is imo perfect. I prefer 42 above 40 mm. 42 Is not too big and like said, imo it still looksgreat on the wrist.

This watch is a sequel to the 1655, on that basis, I would say gotta be black but i agree, would like to see both to decide. Unfortunately for me 42mm might be too big

We are not obliged to agree on all, my friend.

I stay on my position and thoughts on this watch: When you're used to the previous versions, ( the 1655 and the 16 550 / 570 ) there is a proportion, an harmony which had litteraly exploded, with this latest " opus ".

Look at the bezel of the former models: The numbers were perfectly sized, while here, the bezel increased in size, while trhe numbers didn't and look a bit lost.

Your admirable pics also show that there is no bevelled lugs, anymore.

BUT I agree on the fact that your pics are the best I've seen, to this day, on this model.

First of all, great pics u have there, Bruno! Well done!

I'm a huge fan of old school Sport Rolex pieces. Pertaining to the new gen Rolexes, i tend to agree with Nicolas that the case bigger than it should have been and the lugs is kind of out of place. Don't get me wrong .... i'm also a big watch guy (i also own PAMs, AP, BP, etc.) but i just don't see the magic it creates for the iconic brand. I guess it's just personal preference. Most importantly, u like what u wear!

This one is in superb condition, and has developped a very nice and warm patina.

I love this watch so much that I will certainly, one day;, take another one, a straight second hand, and certainly a rail dial.

You managed to change the brute character of the watch and turn it into a much civilized presentation. Now I am more intrigued to see it in the flesh.

that is the problem with steel bracelets, my wrist is thicker and there is no way I can wear it if I haven't a few extra links.

I have to say your photo really change my mind on this watch. I'm sure I have no problem picking this watch and call it my 1st or 2nd modern Rolex. If I didn't knew the existence of the previous version.

There are certain old world charm in those vintage pieces. A romantic side that speak to my heart. An era that bring back memories. The 70s, 80s even the early 90s not forgoting iconic time of 50s and 60s. Maybe I'm stuck in the past like some would say but is not a bad place to be.

I'm hopeful though that there will a modern Rolex that can speak to us(the stucked ones).

but I too agree with Bruno here.  Best proportioned MODERN Rolex!  The SubC's fat lugs just too much and IMHO, Rolex did the larger 42mm case right in this case.

just collected mine 4hrs ago from dealers i was and got to say over the moon with it, i was excited when i visited the Rolex stand in Base l put my name down at my AD soon as i came back, i wasnt expecting to see one on my wrist until the new year, couldnt contain my excitement when they rang me yesterday and said it was in, zipped up there this morning like a teenager on his first date, and i was not disappointed. what a beauty!  i have a collection of 10 vintage sports 5513 1680 red 6204 5512  and this one is as magnificent as all of them , now i know some may not agree, but then until you own one you will never know,

I am still stumped now on whether I should get the white dial or the black dial???

I think that I am leaning towards the black dial even though I originally was tempted by the white one.

black is the colour george i was tempted by the white when i looked at them at the launch in basel but i am so glad i went for black the orange hand that makes this so distinguishable from the other sports range of rolex justs stands out so much more i have it on now and it has competion from a sub red daytona and a guilt 5513, but they are taking second billing to this baby at the moment : good luck with your choice

Picture 8. There appears to be a tiny bump on the dial. Looks like an imperfection rather than a smudge as the color is the same as the dial.

I purchased the new Exp II and I really liked it.  It is the first watch since the fat lugs that due to the increased diameter looks to my eye “right”.  It is proportioned and doesn’t look like a brick on my wrist.  I like Rolex watches for many reasons; therefore, I forced myself to wear the new Submariner and GMT IIc for a few months each (GMT didn’t make it that long) thinking, “I really want to like this watch”.  In the end, I threw it back into the sea and back to a Sea Dweller 4000.  The Exp II watch is classic, yet it says 2012 without being futuristic.   The hands are exquisite and bold, and allow the time to jump at you with no effort.  

The Explorer has always been the Roger Dangerfield “I don’t get no respect” of the Rolex sports line.  It does everything well without any flash.  The 216570 stays with its roots, yet has a hint of flash and excitement with the fat hands and orange hand.  However, it will be bypassed by most as they want to look at a bezel they can turn, but never do, even when they could of used to see how much time was left on the parking meter.   

I found the watch magnificent.  That said, I did not keep it.  I had two Rolex’s already a GMT II pepsi and Seadweller they weren’t going anywhere.  I had to choose between the Exp II and a JLC Master Control Navy Seals on the articulated bracelet.  To diversify and check off a block I made for myself a year previous when I saw the Navy Seals, I went with the JLC.  

I love this piece ever since I saw it in Basel
