Rolex

Hi All,

I hold a special place in my heart for a CERN dialed (read: blackout) 1019 Milgauss - but unfortunately I do not have the same place in my bank balance.

What are your thoughts on a "custom" / modded 116400 with black-out lume and tip-only seconds hand.

Here is a (bad) mock up i did (purists please avert your eyes).

Of course going the whole-hog would mean a re-dial with a silver base and full re-print (..but I do know a place in Spain who can do it)

I am keen to hear your comments...

for me, i don't go for this PVD'ing and modification. Just for my taste, its a no.

and I must says it would look really cool...but please don't touch an old one ;-)

that is like saying do certain "stuff" with your girlfriend that you wouldn't do with your wife!

Will you be happy with it and would you forget the original one?

This is just my personal opinion, here, but I think that this kind of " Homage " is not really a good thing.

Then, if you send it to Rolex, you may have some issues, as Rolex doesn't accept to work on a modified authentic watch.

I would go on the original, or, if I can't afford it, I would pass on this kind of  " Homage ".

In fact, I don't like Homage...

I think this is the closest  step to ... Fakes.

I think that dial kicks ass BIG time - just my personal opinion. But there's something about modifying a Rolex that just doesn't sit well with me.

It's similar to that whole Bamford & Sons thang which I just don't get......

No message body

... but afterwards you might "long" for the original setup .... .

If you have the money to buy two and modify one ....

Your pic is awesome, very, very, nice. Is it photoshop or did you actually relumed the dial/hands that way?  The dial is nicer and sober like that,  In my opinion, much nicer than a black Pvd Sdds with a red line.........
