Hi all. I shall keep this short but I wanted to share my anger at the greedy dealers who wish to mint money on the new Daytona. I tried to find a feedback link direct to Rolex but was unsuccessful.

In Kuala Lumpur, the dealers have decided it's a great idea to place a surcharge on pieces that they deem as "hot". It ranges from a few thousand to now the ridiculous 30+thousand for the new Daytona.

They are dealers with a list price but choose to cheat and skin clients who want to purchase a sports model Rolex. I can't believe that Rolex themselves approve of these slimy money grabbing methods. The dealers already make a profit on the list price but for the new Daytona they have gone to the extreme because of the demand.

I have quite an honest collection of timepieces and find this business practice disgusting.

I will send my concerns to Rolex if anyone can share a link. Again my apologies for this rant but I believe as consumers and fellow admirers of fine time pieces we should not be ripped off by local money grabbing dealers. Shame on them.

All over the the South Asia region. Especially where the dealers have shops in the region, the prices will be controlled.

The current asking price is approx USD19k.

Patiently waiting to get mine.

I am happy to hear that there are dealers that honour a list. That's how I perceive a process to be. I do want to share that the list price is in the region of 10K USD. Anything above that is pure greed. At that list price the dealers already make a healthy profit. I refuse to shovel cash into their pockets because of demand which will taper off in time.

IMHO.. These are luxury goods. Need to pay to play specially when something is as "hot" as the new Daytona c.

Here in the Brazil when the Chevrolet Corsa ( Opel Corsa B for someones places) in 1994,
the price was 7k dollars and the agio was 7k dollars, without opcional, naked car.
My father was the AD of the Chevrolet on the Brazil and profited too many.

With the Daytona and Rolex releases is happening the same!

Last turn as I seen one showcase on AD in Goiânia-Brazil, the Rolex Sub Hulk was for 13k dollars,
on my god, 13k dollars??????? This MSRP is 8~9K..

Why???????
Still well it isn't happening only in the Brazil, in other places too.

As a buyer, clearly, I would prefer if the AD sold the watch at list.  From the other side, though, it would be irrational to sell an item for anything less than the market price.  A business takes a fair amount of inventory risk, etc., and the profit from a Daytona can allow you to sell other, less profitable watches as well. Why have a price list and instead let's negotiate all pieces based upon market conditions? Now there's a thought...

They are called MSRP - manufacturer's suggested retail price. I am sure if dealers are prohibited from selling above list they will be disciplined. If buyers can negotiate to buy below MSRPs, why are dealers not allowed to sell above? While I as a buyer do not appreciate this practice, to say that such practice is "disgusting" is a word too strong. It is all about supply and demand.

I would like to share that dealers are prohibited to sell their pieces with a steep discount and manufactures check with fake buyers. But selling it WAY ABOVE the MRSP is honkey dorey? I beg to differ.

And which brands. 35-40% disocunts in Asia is not uncommon for many brands even walk-ins get 30 all the time esp in the current economic climate. Fyi.

For 30K Malaysian I would fly to London and buy a Patek instead.

I am happy for you. I wish things work that way here but it doesn't. It's a parallel universe which has a lot of grey. It's a bore at times.

They have a long list of clients or VIPs wanting this piece. For someone who walks in from the street and wants it now, they have to justify selling to him. Money talks.

Personally, I would wait until the craze dies out.

I have been buying from this dealer for 30 years. I don't know if that "qualifies" me as a good buyer but I have every complication from a 2 hand till minute repeater from them. Now you tell me if I may be miffed?
