Panerai PAM 687: A forgotten Radiomir?
Issued in 2017 in a limited edition of 1000 pieces, this 47 mm Radiomir in steel is eye catching, with only one flaw, in my opinion, its 30 meters water resistant case...
This dial is mesmerizing.

The originals were assembled in the 1960s...
with left-over parts from the production of the so-called 'transitional' 3646 with Angelus 240 movements (the very first watches to feature 'Luminor' dials). There are two original pieces, one in the Panerai archives and one in a private collection. The third piece with the tropical dial shown in amanico's post from 2017 (photo by Luciano Cipullo, not Goldberger) is a Frankenstein watch cobbled together by Italian dealer Francesco Ferretti after seeing the original piece in the exhibition room of the old Panerai premises located at the Piazza Galileo Ferraris in Florence.

One of the two original pieces was acquired by Milan Rolex retailer Valerio Verga directly from Panerai and is now in a private collection. It was with me for several months and is a truly stunning object:

I like it very much
The 685/687 are some of the most compact 47 radiomirs however only 30m WR which has been my biggest gripe, otherwise I would have probably got a 685, they often trade at a discount over here.
Agree that 30 WR is ridiculous. But, as an ex owner of the Cali PAM 249, I lived with that.
I recall someone speculating, maybe it was in a Watchbox review...
...That the 30m water resistance was a historical nod to the original watches. And that the WR might more than what is stated. I emphasize "speculating," I don't think I've ever seen this confirmed.

I have never owned a Panerai and I have never had a 47mm watch. Biggest for me was a 45mm UN. How does it wear? Just sounds big.
Great looking vintage inspired Panerai.
I always liked this one as I think the dial is just amazing and I also really like the engraved bezel which I know not everyone does.

I don't wear it much since it is big and i would hate to hit it against something. The quality seems really nice.

gave this model any though. I like it, to be sure, it has historical lineage but, I was done with the 1000Pcs Unique Editions.
