The smaller size case fit your wrist well objectively irrespective of subjective factors.

You quoted "typical Paneristi". I wonder if today there is such a "person" since we have social media and horology websites that may have homogenised watch buyers.

What do you think? Have you seen such changes in Singapore over the years?

The crown protection just looks silly to me. If I want some smaller panerais then i would always go for a Radiomir . But tastes are different and in this context the dues are contributing their part on it .

there are quite a bit. Not as many as the "turists", to be sure, but there are a number of...us...that think: "I wish I had died BEFORE seeing these abominations".

I would probably choose life over seeing these watches, but they do seem at odds with what Panerai was always about. If I want a smaller watch, there are many choices. Panerai is attractive to me for its history and simple, bold design, intended originally for diving with legibility and good water resistance.

I think it is more a question whether the case is able to protect the movement sufficiently against all exterior influences. And for me the WR is a strong indicator for this quality.

And the high ability of the watch case to protect its inner values could be of interest to every user of a mechanical watch.

Why not at least WR 100m? I am sure this would have been possible. So: sorry, not my cup of tea...

But that’s just my opinion and I am convinced there exists a market for this model.

it should have the possibility to drive off-road. If I would buy a sports car it should have a minimum amount of PS. Even if I drive just in the city at 50 km/h.

We can discuss if it makes sense to buy a SUV or sports car just for the city. But I think the product should be able to fulfill what it promises.

And a Panerai with its special history equipped with a crown guard should be - per definitionem - more water resistant than a delicate dress watch. 😊

No diving intended whatsoever. Crown guard has evolved from a practical implement to a trademark decoration. Can the die hard Paneristi be more forgiving? The brand has clearly evolved and are offering more than just dive watches.

for a modern watch manufacturer to provide a case with a WR not less than 100m?

There are watches for less than € 1.000 which are able to meet this requirements.

And there are watches for more than € 50.000 that don’t fulfill this criterion.

I wonder why?

I think it is problem for many brands, they dont know it better!

people that don't really care about WR than the ones that do, that's why! The W.R. is NOT a parameter for the cost/value of a watch. Haute Horology and WR..don't..go hand in hand. When the tourbillon or the minute repeater were invented people didn't have swimming pools, vacations and pubs were to..SHOW OFF..they wares Even today there are people that, before washing their hands take the watch off....

a sign of essential quality of a watch.

A case should PROTECT the movement against all exterior influences like impacts, shocks, dust, mud, water etc.

The more delicate a movement is the more important is the robustness of the case.

Perhaps this should be called ... „EER“ (external effects resistance) instead of WR? 😊

furthering this type of subject would be a loose/loose situation. Sometimes, the members of watch fora forget that they represent a less than infinitesimal number of watch buyers and all the "pretenses", "must have" are just personal taste, like a tie or a brand of cigarettes. There are more "tourists" that buy a watch...any watch...because the strap, at the moment of the purchase, matches the colour of their SOCKS, then people that PRETEND to dive the Marianas Trench and shortly after go to the pub for happy hour, without having had time to go home and change the....watch. I lump all these idiosyncrasies under the heading: whatever floats your boat..and live happily

Watches are non-essential for the most part today. Despite the fact that watches are really accessories more than essential items that we depend on for our life, I still appreciate them for their craft, quality, design, and integrity, for lack of a better word. There is certainly nothing wrong with a smaller, low WR Panerai, if that's what floats your boat and matches your socks, but I enjoy Panerai specifically for its watches that are truer to its history and original purpose. These larger watches, which do look like pie pans on my 6.8" wrist, are still fun because there's a story behind them and their design reflects their intended purpose -- even though my last dive was down only five feet in a kidney shaped swimming pool.
