Visited a project yesterday afternoon. About to leave, and the driveway was blocked. Watched this bull, about 5.5' long, slither across and go up the tree. When I left, he was about 25' up there. Photos in reverse order... for Nico, of course!! ;-)
The bite of a bull snake can certainly be painful. But not venomous.

Like most animals, they want nothing to do with us, either. But if you step too close and don't see them, they strike. I do think he was hunting some birds and or eggs. First time I saw one climb a pine like that.
But at first I was really confused as I couldn't comprehend just how a bull could get up a tree never mind 25 foot up a tree, so looked more closely at the picture and saw the snake. A Google search then taught me what a bull snake was and it all made sense. As I said great pictures but i have to admit I'm not a fan of snakes as they give me the heebee jeebies.
