Something philosophical:

Since the industrial revolution, we became slaves to time and are measured by how much work we can do within a certain amount of time. Our beloved watches (which apparently became popular during the same era), the time keepers, are actually instruments of this slavery.

This article states that weekends were instituted by capitalists so that workers have time to spend money. This makes the capitalists earn more. And what do Purist slaves buy with their hard earned money... the very objects that enslave them.

it is all relative, is it not . Entirely dependant on how you see yourself and wether you 'own' the time you have and how you spend it (working, procrastinating etc.). Personally, I could never see myself as a slave to time nor have I ever purchased things (luxury or not, outside of basic necessities) which I did not feel like purchasing . Cheers, Filip

For some time now I have not been wearing a watch on the weekend. Whether or not I am in control of it, my weekdays are busy and bound by time. My weekends without a watch gives me a sense of freedom.

Yet now I'm in my office on a Saturday. Sigh.

I try not to, but this week was too short by a few days, compounded by travel. My work today will be carried out in the company of a friend who also has work to get done and from the comfort of a local restaurant following a decent brunch together, but it will still be work.

There are those - many are entrepreneurs, but not exclusively -who claim "I am the master of my own destiny! If I am working it is for me and it is not a burden!" I do not agree with this perspective, which tends to see the person only as an economic unit and capital for exploitation (by oneself or by others; it does not matter). More important to have time to do...well, nothing.

A watch is also a useful tool for enjoying life to the fullest. How else can one be on time for dinner reservations, concerts, drinks with friends, etc. A watch at the beach can also help you avoid a nasty sunburn. Nothing sinister in these activities that I can discern.

Couldn't He have rested for two or three days?! Breathing upon the waters or whatever has to be hard work...

We'd have four day weekends for sure if He had thought about it a little harder.

Capitalists are the hardest working people, that is how they stay afloat. Not the ones subsidized by governments of course You got to have a hobby my friend. Cheers Edward
