Looking for the sunrise (and not finding it)
I set out early this morning, hoping for a dramatic sunrise over San Diego Bay. What I got instead was low-lying clouds, mist and cool air. Oops. Darn.

The famous Hotel del Coronado.

Well, I was here and the city was just waking up. I thought about walking on the ocean side, but I took a walk along the bay instead.
Three paddlers had just launched themselves into the bay as I arrived. I wonder how far they will go? These are not stand-up paddle board tourist types, they are the guys and gals with huge shoulders and upper arms.

The recreation center was occupied only by one cleaning lady, two ducks, and some seagulls. Otherwise, no one.

Two views of the solitary sentry on lifeguard tower 1B (above and below)

I chatted briefly with these guys who were itching to get some fish. I miss having a boat (sometimes).

I'd never seen this statue that was intriguingly lit, so I walked over to check it out.

Frogman. UDT. SEAL. First ashore.

As I headed up the bay I was surprised by the variety and quantity of aromatic flowers. I think early morning, still air, high humidity are good for scents.

Natal Plum has a strong bouquet.

Water in the marina was very still. This is about 4-5 miles from the channel entrance and it is always calm here.

It's the perfect place to keep a "White Lotus"

I immediately thought of James Bond's underwater Esprit, which was bought by Elon Musk about 10 years ago. I wonder if he still has it, or if it works underwater?

A very chic seating area in the bow, for Sir and his Lady Friend.

The Boat House restaurant with Hotel del Coronado-type architecture (hotel in background)

I walked through this arbor with Night-blooming Jasmine and the smells nearly made me faint.

Then I was slapped in the face (figuratively) by the aroma of this Society Garlic. I wonder who put these adjacent to the Jasmine?

Purple and White Agapanthus "Lily of the Nile" was next.
I cruised on over to the Yacht Club and while reading the sign saw movement out of the corner of my eye. A rabbit! But it evaded my attempt to photograph it...

Here’s a
Duffy Electric Boat, a very pleasant place to spend a sunny afternoon and watch the sunset with 4-5 friends (for the price of a nice watch).

We rented a Duffy once, in Newport Beach, with my wife's sisters and cousins.

I can almost see myself having one.

But I cast those thoughts aside and went landward, taking pictures of a few homes that struck my fancy. There's lots of variety, but I seemed this morning to have a thing for shingles

I carefully weaned myself off liking these houses,

knowing the prices would be astronomical,
and none of them will have a Wild Kingdom back yard like my home does.
Checking out the Triumph on the way back to the car,

waving to the ducks who ignored me,

I was prepared to fight the traffic on my way home. But it was still early, and the trip was uneventful. But my watch's date is a day behind. Dang it!
Thanks for joining me this morning.
