The eternal question: Was I right to pass on this one? When hunting references such as the Railmaster, or Seamaster 165024 or early Speedmasters, your road crosses some nice watches, but you pass... Just because you focus on your target.

The crown is wrong and some scratches on the plexi...

It would be too easy if there was only one good answer and one bad one. But it doesn't work like that : it depends... how much it sings to your heart, how many other projects you have on the way, how deep are your pockets... I know only one thing : for me in spite of its obvious attractivity it would have been NO also.
"Choosing is renouncing" (André Gide) ; I am sure you knew this one was coming as this is one of my fav' motos.
And as for me specially this year more than ever, I have renounced to some but I have also decided for a few very very exciting others.
So there is no frustration at all, just satisfaction when I think of the ones that have been elected

I much prefer the black version anyway, with real radium lumes.
No a rare reference, should you really want one, one for sure will cross your path sooner or later.
Nico, how do you reconcile your seemingly huge appetite ("this one is also on my list"...) and your desire to reduce/ narrow your collection down to about 10 watches?
Am I misinformed? Is the railmaster truly going to be one of those "happy fews" in your collection?
As time goes, i tend to be attracted by the ones and onlys, those vintage watches known or less known, that you Know you are not in doubt about their merit. In fact, especially those, unlike the Ranchero, that you know you are not likely to see again anytime soon or possibly ever again... Those watches that simply jump at you and command you to possess them...

I am starting to reduce the collection, my friend.
It is a tough game. But I have a rule. I want to end what I started, and then let some pieces go and keep a few of them.
For example, the day I will end my vintage JLC Collection, I will probably let the two third go.
Same for many other themes. I will probably let most of my pieces go to fund 3 or 4 or 5 big birds.

I have started the downsizing…
Somehow, you have to recognize your limits, what ever they are, financial, time… you name it, and accept that you might not get all the way up the stairs before you start the slow and exquisite descent. Getting all the watches you might have set as a target, and I know you are ambitious, might mean you might have set set yourself an unrealistic target. You might never get there...
You might never get there...The Ranchero? I still have mine, but for sure not a keeper in the "grande lessive" to come.
