I agree with you on cushion cases.
I have only liked the fit of cushion cases from GP because the case and lugs are tapered.
The case design and execution may seem simple at first glance.
The milling and finishing is more complex in reality.
See A here in this pic. The lug thickness tapers and sweeps from case.
It’s not one “block”.

Here A and C are curved to fit the wrist shape. B is flat to fit the flat part of the bone.
D has vertical satin brushing and the chamfer on E is horizontal satin brushing that meets the lugs at an angle.
