Chopard L.U.C Heritage Grand Cru: yes or no?
The tonneau or barrel-shaped L.U.C Heritage Grand Cru pays homage to Karl-Friedrich Scheufele's love of French wine: he acquired the Chateau Monestier La Tour in January 2012, a wine estate in the region of Bergerac, France.
Because of its fairly thin case (38.5 x 38.8 x 7.74 mm) and shaped micro-rotor caliber L.U.C 97.01-L (featuring the Poinçon de Genève and COSC-certification), I really wanted to love it.
But I wasn't completely convinced when I had the chance to try it on: I liked the movement much better than the dial.

I love the dial. Perhaps more so in white.
The movement is nice but I'm not really a movement guy.
I find that as I have perhaps 10 watches in rotation that one watch does not have to be the end all to what I buy.
I live variety in looks. If I was a one watch person, I would maybe be far far more picky.

and, as I said, I really wanted to love this watch. A shaped case and a shaped movement, in particular, are very much to my liking.
But something doesn’t feel right on my wrist. It might just be the size, which is just a little too large for my smallish wrist.
However I still think Chopard did a great job with this watch.

That’s unexpected, even for me, as,
just like you, I think, I’m not naturally drawn to gem-set watches.
I agree that this piece unique is well done. The guilloche center is a great addition too, imo.

Totally, it brilliantly plays off of....
the geometric shapes and colors of the diamonds. This one could easily be the official watch of Monaco 😊😇👌

I wanted to like it to the point where I almost buy it without handling it first.

Honestly not feeling this one in any of the versions
The case shape is perhaps inelegant and not interesting enough movement to make up for it. Makes me appreciate a piece like the Patek 5124g.

A resounding "Yes!" from me.
At least for the rose gold, white lacquered dial iteration. I love mine, as it ticks so many of my boxes: elegant shaped case; very precise, highly detailed dial treatment; shaped, micro-rotor, Geneva Seal chronometer movement; relatively slim; somewhat underdog/under-recognized status, etc. Granted, it looks a little large in the first wrist shot above, but it lies perfectly on my (somewhat larger?) wrist. I've also read criticism of the date window, but frankly, if you're going to have one, this execution is pretty good to my eye. I went through a couple LUC models before I settled on the Heritage Grand Cru, and it's something I wear very often.

Yes, this is one of the two largest shaped watches I own (and can get away with without looking silly).
The other being the Parmigiani Fleurier Kalpa XL Hebdomadaire - probably even bigger. The Breguet Heritage, the Patek 5098, or a Cartier Tortue might work very well if a tonneau case appeals. Some of the smaller PF Kalpas from the previous decade, or the even older Dubey & Schaldenbrand Aerodynes are pretty nifty, too, though they don't have shaped movements.

Magnificent design, both front and back!
Dial is quite striking and appears huge, but in a tasteful way, though I suspect its not significantly large, just appears so.
I dont think it overwhelms the wrist and certainly makes it very easy to read the time, and admire the dial!

Great watches
shaped movements are indeed rare to come by. Watches are fine but their clients must have very big wrists. Given that you are asking for our opinion, it look too large on your wrist. Tonneau watches should be delicate.
Breguet Héritage in traditional size? the movement is prob quite of a lesser standard than this one but when I think about tonneau, this is the one that comes to mind
