"Everything a watch should be, and not a drop more"

Best quote for GS ever

Thank you for dreamy shot

. . . with a sliver of So Cal in the background.  Big Rock, Malibu, is a great spot for photography - I see folks with cameras there all the time.

Thanks for the ever so kind words, Damjan.

Best,

Art

Next time I am in So Cal, please bring me there! ;)

But too far from Maggie?

The problem with Maggie is that it is much easier to go into her bar than to leave... wink

We'll start in Ventura County at Neptune's . . .

. . . and end at Maggie's in Orange County, Nico.  Deal?

Don't worry about getting back - we'll spend the night at her place!

I didn't think it was that bad...

 By: andrewluff : December 13th, 2013-05:09
It wasn't the super super hot year by every brand but still plenty of new pieces to drool over...

Romain with the Logical One...

Vianney with the Deep Space...

Kari with his Vingt-8 R

Zenith Christoph Columb Fusee

Harry Winston Opus 13

UN Freak Cruiser

Then the Tudor re-editions, the Zenith GMT, JLC Gyro 3, new design Hublot Big Bang and Hublot LaFerrari...

There are probably more if I had a real think about it

Cheers
Andrew

Agree on the Independants. There were some interesting creations.

 By: amanico : December 13th, 2013-05:47

One I still don't get, though, is the Kari Vouilainen RDM... Which looks like a much more affordable JLC, and which I find less inspired, for once, from Kari.

The Deep Space is to die for.

As for U.N, well, this is something we share.

Not a too bad year, but not exceptional.

Best,

Nicolas

I love the logical one

But in platinum.  I like the black dial version over the enamel. I realize I am in the minority.

It was a great step forward for Romain.

This AP is the only 2013 release I picked up this year...

 By: Blue_Orca : December 13th, 2013-05:40

I wanted to add another ceramic watch to my collection.  My 1st was the Panerai 317K.  Picture below:

I always liked the AP steel diver, as soon as the ceramic diver was announced, I thought I finally found a AP that I would consider a must-have.

The different finishes (I counted 3 - polished ceramic on the bezel sides and case edges, and 2 different brushed strokes on the bezel top and rest of the case) and the orange color make the AP ceramic diver a very sharp looking watch.

There weren't that many 2013 watches I really like or remember, but perhaps that's just me, not paying attention to any watch that I consider unobtainable with my meager budget.  This Zenith was the only other 2013 release I was interested in:

I tried it on when I first saw it in person at the Zenith Ginza boutique back in July.  The short lugs make the rather large watch wearable.  The price for this piece is very attractive too.  If I had not had the AP on order already, I would have picked this watch up instead.

Best watch of 2013 was the JLC Grand Jubilee Master Ultra Thin

Great watch.  Platinum.  And I like the design!

Personally, that's the best watch of 2013 to me.

 By: foversta : December 13th, 2013-14:48
It was in my point of view an excellent year with some really impressive watches including three which are true breakthrough.

These three watches are the Swatch Sistem51, the Urwerk EMC and the GP Constant Escapement:

About the others, my selection is:

1815 Rattrapante PC:

Cartier Mysterious Double Tourbillon:

The amazing Cinema from Chaykin:

UN Tourbillon Skeleton:

And I was under the charm of the purety and simplicity of the latest Haldimann:

The Skybridge is really amazing:

More affordable, the Tissot Skeleton:

and to put an end to this selection, a watch I bought, the Spacecraft by RJ!

So I guess I will weigh in on 2013 faves

 By: jkingston : December 14th, 2013-14:04
Well I will boil it down to two watches.  These are all rapidly done photos testing out the photo gear getting ready for SIHH.  So did not really clean up the watches, nor did I spend any time doing postprocessing.  The first watch from Kari Voutilainen was a project, three years from conception/order to watch in hand.

And of course there is the back side.

Well worth the wait!!!  And since a great chrono has to have more than good looks, in answer to the next question, it runs magnificently.  Take a look at the finishing of all the interior angles (angle rentrant) and you can see just how immaculately Kari finished the watch (good example is the arm that pivots down to the chronograph center wheel, the interior angles shimmer).  Also look at the detail on the finish of the large wheels of the chronograph and in particular the anglage on the spokes.  One other detail.  Kari makes his own hands.  More than a day of polishing work for each hand.

Here is watch number two.  A long wait for this one as well.

This watch is a "time waster".  When wearing it, can't take your eyes off it.  Also, examine the finishing...the tourbillon bridge (check out the interior angles), the polish on the top of the fusee and barrel, the finish on the chain, all breathtaking.
