Has PPro influenced any purchasing decisions or led you to a watch that you wouldn’t have otherwise considered?
I am very interested to know, even anecdotally, how much influence PPro has on our readers.
Andrew
Ps. This is not an authorised market survey! J
) As for my last third purchase, the 114270 were my own decision without any influence from PuristPro, LOL. Next, i dont know, maybe will get some Tudor influence from PuristPro if any.....
I actually purchased the Reverso Grand Date on the back of reviews and comments by PuristS owners ...

And there have been indirect influneces. Pplater will probably not remember this, but he said to me once that "every watch collection should contain a Speedy Pro" or words to that effect. And 'poof', one appeared in my watch box. [He also said that every watch collection should have a Voutilainen, a Dufour and a Resonance, so I am slowly working on that.
]

Given the plethora of choices out there... I always find new and interesting watches on this forum. However, most importantly, I think about the watches that I've 'warmed up to' over time due to the posts of fellow collectors or 'reviews' that I find extremely helpful. Sometimes it is the explanation of a neat complication or even a material (like the how the ADLC of Cartier differs from that of other more typical DLC coatings)... just fascinating stuff. So if I were to say how many of my watch purchases were influenced by the Forum... I'd say roughly about 1/4... but all of my purhases benefitted from the information available on this Forum. It is truly one of the main reasons I visit the site daily.
Best,
OpC

and the recent venture into indy.

But feel free to throw it in here.
Those of you who like to delve back into our history might enjoy or remember the "Celebrity Endorsements" thread. [click here] It's a particularly memorable conversation for me because we were able to jump from the influences of celebrity endorsement to the influence of PPro 'endorsements'. Some of the discussion is very relevant to this question today.
Good question, KC.
Andrew
Let's see. What am I warming up to at the moment? A Rolex DJ II smooth bezel courtesy of SIHH pics from this site (I think it was from Imran's report). A Rolex 1675 from the usual suspects over at that forum. A master control courtesy of a blood thirsty mod from the JLC forum. Having wandered to the UN forum, heck, I'm even contemplating on a Marine chronometer at this point. Then there's that 372 from the Panerai forum.
PuristsPro definitely opens eyes. And it does help that the mods have good taste, credibility, buy what floats their boat and can produce very nice photographs
It would take ages to type a comprehensive catalogue in reply to your seemingly simple question.
Bernard, Clang, TM, Cen, Alex and others pointed the way to 'Independent' thinking (and there's now one or two of those in the watchbox); Lord Arran directed a peek at IWC (although there is no Il Destriero Scafusia in the watchbox, there's a couple of IWC); Art's quiet but persistent affection for vintage Omega was an eye-opener; SteveG is single-handedly responsible for first looks into a whole range of pieces subsequently acquired and, as the proud custodian of a couple of GaryG's cast-offs, there is now an excruciating wait ahead until he next lets go of any one of the marquee pieces in his collection.
You did your bit as well, Andrew, as we shared a 'Journey' together. Who, though, has been the most Devilish influence? Doubtless there will be many who proclaim -
So much for freewill!
It is also humbling to think that the influences might go both ways. Of course, anyone who says there should be one Speedy in every collection should put his money where his mouth is:
Any false starts? Yes - despite being able to intellectualise their appeal, despite having read reams and reams of positive reviews, still the ‘porthole’ style of watch (Nautilus, RO, ROO, Hublot) does not call out from a personal perspective.
Any regrets? Yes - not having listened to all those who said that waiting to acquire one sensational piece is ultimately more rewarding than haphazardly accumulating lesser pieces on an ad hoc basis to fuel instant gratification; not learning, sooner, to give proper consideration to the movement of a watch, whether it be a humble tractor or a handmade thing of great complexity; not paying attention to the wails of despair from those bankrupted by Amanico's reviews.
Yet another compelling thread Andrew: thank you. The answers to follow will be most interesting.
Cheers,
pplater.

The PuristSPro forum has definitely influenced my decisions to go for some watches I had never had in mind before reading reviews and comments, seen beautiful pictures and been contaminated by the enthusiasm of some Purist when describing them, the same culprit (in my case) comes to mind ..Amanico
and here are some of the evidence!

and I have NO regret your Excellency, I will do it all over again....thank you Nicolas, Although as pointed out by Pplater..you're sending me broke
LOL
Cheers
Francois
I would have never considered buying a UN Perpetual if it had not been for the enthusiasm by Marcus Hanke. Same for your review, Andrew, of the Breguet La Tradition. As for things to come, the Journe Tourbillon is certainly kept constantly in my mind by your pictures!
Best

It is not that PPro ABR is perfect. It is because I trust that the team knows what they are doing and I just contribute my tiny support.
I will not be influenced by a lengthy watch review to buy that watch because that may not be impartial or may be tainted with biasness. However, I will use that as a useful guide.
Having said that, I need to constantly remind myself that there are two dangerous persons who possess huge influencing power, they are our famous Amanico and GaryG.

Ling
