Horological Meandering

I have never been prompted to buy a watch that  I "would not have considered otherwise" as the question goes.

But some posts have made me more keen on watches that I did already consider, because I liked their looks or technical properties. These review then strongly reinforced my desire to own this watch.

On the other hand even the most enthusiastic reports on watches that did not "speak" to me, did have no effect at all. Obviously my perception of a desirable watch is quite narrow, but can be focussed by corresponding posts.

I feel this is quite helpful to keep my account balanced !

Puristpro is the main source of information and introduction.

My daily horological newspaper where I get to know about the latest news,get to know about the all time classics and get to improve my overall knowledge.Hence my main inspiration so to speak.

After a brief encounter ,I stast my jurney of deep study,appreciation,in metal experiences and on and on..

Lets say that with knowledge comes wisdom,and most of my knowledge come from this site.

I joined the forum, with specifically an interest in vintage Blancpain fifty Fathoms.

Although I already owned a modern Omega and Rolex, I was not too bothered about looking at those pages, but then gradually, found myself reading (especially the Rolex page) more often.

How has the forum influenced me? Well, my Rolex is a Seadweller 16600. I like a date, without the cyclops. Infact, pre PuristsPro, I hated the cyclops on Rolex watches.

Now, several years down the line, I own a GMT-Master and Red Submariner both complete with their glorious cyclops lens, and I love them!!!

I think that when you enter into a community like this forum, you cannot help, perhaps not to be influenced, but definetly have your views modified, as you have such a large selection of watches to admire, and with many of the members having artistic skill with the camera, you see other sides to watches which perhaps you hadn't appretiated before.

Thats what happend to me with regard to the cyclops, I grew to admire the design of these vintages, and the date lens stopped being a negative.

When it's sometimes down to on-the-one-hand and on-ther-other-hand, a little nudge from the PuristS can make the difference. And not just in purchases but also deciding what to do with what you have.  I've definitely kept one watch which I hardly wear after reading a passionate post by Bernard.

that this forum would influence in one way or another our approach to watches---be it purchasing ,selling or re-evaluating what we have.
i have certainly been exposed to tne galsshute PML through this site and ended up acquiring one after perusing great reviews on the forum
My other acquistion courtesy of this forum is the omega railmaster for which i have to thank  graham's reviews and photos of his watch.

Yes I believe the PPro site has influenced my purchase decision. After using the site to research JLC, I attended a London GTG in late May, and tried on a couple of Reverso’s at the JLC boutique. Ever since then I have been saving the pennies for one! Purists often post about Reverso so I’m assuming it’s a popular model. Hopefully one day when I have a proper job and have finished my PhD I’ll be able to afford Grande Reverso Lady UltraThin Neva ;-) . Although I may have to ditch my designer handbag addiction :-(  to start collecting these beautiful timepieces!

I’ve also learnt a lot about complications and watch mechanisms, it’s made me look at watches made by Gucci and Louis Vuitton from different perspective and the price you pay for them!

Perhaps I’ll start posting more when I have my Reverso on wrist… for now I’m enjoying reading everyones posts
