Just finished moving my watches into their new home! One from the collection is still at the spa, and another one is on extended order, so still have 4 empty spots. Going to enjoy my collection for a little bit, and mull over what might fill the remaining spots! Normally I have anxiety with such things, but am actually approaching this with a lack of urgency. I have been looking for a case for some time, and I am very happy with this one.
Very happy with it. I’ve always wanted something from Globetrotter, but shied away from buying anything because if is not that practical. This was a great way to get something from a brand I’ve always admired.
Totally awesome! I've always wondered about the Globe Trotter, but never got one due to the fiberboard material.

How do you like the "grey" fiberboard? The Globetrotter luggage is made of basically a compressed colored fiberboard material, made of recycled paper. Here is the description on Globe-Trotter's website: "We take pride in producing sustainable luggage. Globe-Trotter cases are
crafted from Vulcanised Fibreboard, which is made from 14 layers of
recycled paper that is heavily treated in a special heat and steam
process. The material is considered as strong as leather yet as light as
aluminium. Our cases are then accented with premium leather corners and
handles." Thus, I've always wondered what would happen if the luggage got very wet; soaked in rain or dropped into the sea by accident in the Maldives where this could happen (the planks to the over-water rooms are narrow sometimes). Regardless of what happens, you've influenced me, and I went to the Hodinkee website to see if I could get one of these cases!
The term “vulcanized” implies cross linking of polymer chains, and that’s what happens here- the cellulose cross links to form a hard dense material, arguably “plastic “in nature. One cross linked, there no going back unless you break some pretty solid molecular bonds. So it won’t dissolve if it gets wet.
Rayon is made from cellulose in a different process and is pretty durable, used in everything from dresses to tires.
I better get off their website now before I put something in my cart…
You enjoy your new watch case at max. But beware, empty gaps must be filled. Rolex, Patek, a Speedy, it is clear for me the four empty spaces would be no bargain. I would say, your box screams for a Speedy new Snoopy anniversary, and a nice Bond NTTD Seamaster on the mesh bracelet. The other gaps can be filled with a AP Royal Oak tourbillon and a Romain Gauthier Logical One. Succes!
