Horological Meandering

While the market is dominated by round watches,I always had a sweet spot for square and rectangular watches.

The Bulgari Octo Finissimo is a delight to wear with it's ultrathin case : a real horological highlight inside and outside.

Own the OF, which belongs to the unlimited list of integrated steel (or other metal) bracelet.
That Rado looks really really cool

When I saw it however I could not resist....

For most I did not even know they existed.

To me the aesthetic is super clean.  Would love to see one in person.

I really like the Rado. It is a masterclass of design.

I am looking fr a square watch to seal my watch buying impulse. I just saw this in the window display today. 


Saw the green dial with diamond the other day. But nay, I probably will never buy a PP as it a significant sum that I cannot bear to part with and not to mention I will most probably be looking after it for my kids instead of owning it. I need to get 2 watches if that is the case. Not to forget the long waiting time of 2 years or more.

The Hermes CarreH was so tempting to me but felt unfortunately a bit too big on my wrist.

Was mulling to get it recently but got the sea master instead.

Unfortunately Omega has no longer any square/rectangular watches in their current collections.

While I find square or rectangular watches interesting, Most of them don't sit well on my wrist. That's why the Octo finissimo is my only watch of that category.

I am pretty sure that the same watch with a higher profile would be difficult on my wrist.

Not necessarily perfectly rectangular or square watches, but I consider cushion shapes etc to the category square as opposed to round watches.

The Bulgari (I realize I am one of not many that will say this) is in my humble opinion the least attractive one of all models displayed in this post and the replies.

I understand the design philosophy behind it you from 4 to 8 to round in 3 steps etc. But to me that makes the watch bit lost in the middle.

The Rado is a great one. An odd 30-35 years ago I had a boss who bought one of the first Rado: at that time (today still is) a big novelty.

It appeared indeed to be scratch resistant coz after a year I remember how it showed no scratches. Unfortunately it didn’t survive a 10 meter drop on a concrete ramp when he lost it.

The vintage Omega watches are a nice reminder of an era gone. It is difficult to find valid reason why the JLC rectangular watch is today a bigger icon than ever, while the Omega just disappeared. I for one wasn’t aware they had made them.

And my own favorite square or cushion shape: I would put my CARTIER at 3rd place, the VC Harmony at 2 (and you won’t belief how comfortable that watch wears) and in my collection there can only be one winner VC 1921 pt

I always admire the pictures of your PT version and the new white gold model is very high on my list.
Dangerously,the 1921 sits well on my wrist ....

But unfortunately the shape of the Reverso and the shape of my wrist are ennemies ...

Nice to discus square watches.

For me an undiscovered subject.
In my childhood i remember i wore Casio digital watches.
I knew the Cartier Santos from this community and other watch communities. I seen one in a boutique a few years ago when i bought this round watch.
I spied also the big blued Omega planet Ocean.

I belief there are many reasons why round is accepted as normal.

Pocket watches from centuries ago.
The dial of a clock.
Sun hand.

Practicality:
Better water resistance.
No sharp edges that can pring in skin or in a pocket of a pair of trousers.

Round is referred to coins that said you are rich.

Rectangular is as i see it, a fashion related subject.
Rectangular is odd and show a more individual view of an owner, a fresh thinker. Somebody who can push boundaries.

Within a larger collection it is however fun to have also a few square and cushion shaped watches to break the uniformity.

My petit collection is petit.

Albeit, i want over a watch of three a rectangular and tonneau.

The rectangular is one of these Cartier references:
WWSA0037 or WWSA0030.
The chronograph WWSA0017, i wait when Cartier launches a time only ref of this Santos. I think this would be the best Santos in it’s price category that match my taste the best.

I am a great fan of square and rectangle watches and I love your Rado.

And Rado does ceramic so well !!
