Watch Insurance - Hodinkee
Perhaps this topic has been addressed in the past?
I am looking at insuring my watches, and adding the coverage to my existing policies is a bit of a pain.
Has anyone used the Hodinkee watch insurance? They appear to be underwritten by Chubb.
Never with Hoodinkee, but...
Chubb is as good as it gets. On the way to going broke I insured everything with Chubb.
Under my homeowners policy I simply added, individual valuable articles, watches etc.
I had a claim for a backed up sewer in my basement. Damaged Hartmann luggage and some labels only on a few pricey bottles of wine.
My Chubb agent responded the same day to make sure my basement drained and then he took pictures of the luggage and the wine labels.
I received a check in full within a couple of days after I submitted my claim including a complete, professional clean-up for my basement.
I was pleasantly surprised they paid 20% of the value for the damaged labels. Goes to show we get what we pay for

I spoke to a Hodinkee agent and the insurance sounds legit. It’s essentially Chubb insurance, and Hodinkee acts as the agent.
They charge a fortune...
Try to see if you can get insurance in more direct ways. I imagine Hodinkee is getting a big cut.

I wasn't happy with my quote. Ultimately, retail pricing is a 2.5% of insured value proposition, which means you'll have a full covered loss every 40 years. I expect the pricing to be well under 2%. But that's just me. And that's not realistic for everyone who is only going through retail insurance channels.
Not sure where else to get it if not through an agent
Every other agent has wanted me to tack it on to additional unnecessary policies, which would make it even more expensive, since I’d have to add those policies as well. Haven’t come across an agent that would allow me to buy just a watch insurance policy de novo.
Yup, sounds about right. This is the only way to get standalone Chubb insurance
I did try through agents and it sounds like Chubb will only do these for customers with other policies. Wasn't thrilled with tacking it into homeowners since my agent wasn't super clear on the coverage. Hodinkee quoted me about 1.5% and I'm thinking about it.... Will be interested to hear what you decide to do.
